Psychosocial support to populations in disaster / emergency situations – EX578
Location Lisbon, Portugal
In light of the tragic loss of life due to forest fires in June 2017, the Portuguese National Authority for Civil Protection (ANPC) has identified the need to enhance their psychosocial support efforts in disaster situations.
Three Greek experts that were closely involved in developing the Greek psychosocial support capabilities in response to the migrant/refugee crisis in recent years have been invited to Portugal to assist in drafting a document entitled "Psychosocial support to populations in disaster / emergency situations". The document aims to be a guideline for the planning, coordination and operations in response to a mass emergency, characterised as a serious incident with a high number of affected individuals and households, implying exceptionally challenging psychosocial circumstances to the affected population.
